How to Manage Stress

I’m dealing with some stuff here.

My dog’s neck has a tube in it. It wasn’t beavers that Tess was fighting with. It was wild boars. She tangled with the them again this week. She has now become an inside dog. She’s not completely thrilled with this new status. To sweeten the deal she’s getting plenty of treats (they are wrapped around medicine – don’t tell her.)

Last weekend our car was broken into and we lost more than I care to discuss, but since it pertains to this blog I’ll tell you that among the things stolen was my knitting bag. Yeah really. Someone grabbed a vinyl black knitting bag with SWAK kisses all over it. Stinkers huh? All of my notions were in the bag along with a new pair of socks that I’d just cast on. Real jerks these thieves. Fortunately my lace knitting was not in my knitting bag. Ha! The only fiber the jerks got was the toe of one sock and something tells me they aren’t going to finish knitting them. What a waste. They stole a knitting bag and they probably aren’t even knitters.

Inside my knitting bag was my newest journal and my fountain pen. Dadgum thieves. I’ve had that pen for ten or twelve years. How am I supposed to deal with all of this stress if I don’t have my favorite pen?

Well — I am a knitter. There are certain things a knitter can do to handle stress.

You guessed it.

Here is a photo of the mittens that I just cast on. Somehow I think colorwork knit using itty bitty Size 0US double point needles and fingering weight yarn will take the edge off.

The pattern is the Lotus Mittens by Heddaknits. Heather Desserud is brilliant when it comes to colorwork mittens. You may have seen her most recent mitten design, Chrysanthemum Mittens, on Knitty.com. See? Aren’t those cool!

I’m using Knit Picks Palette yarn because I just happen to have a huge selection of Palette from the Sipalu Bag Kit that I didn’t knit. (Knitting colorwork flat instead of in the round is just crazymaking for me.) I chose Tidepool Heather for the main color and Celedon Heather for the accent.

I’m feeling a little better already.

  1. that really stinks Denise! And is a lot of stress all at once.

i heard this kind of theft is going up as times get harder. Sorry you were on the receiving end of it. Or I guess that would be the giving end of it. Anyway, sorry it happened. Where were you if you don't mind saying?

Hoping Tess is on her way to mending!

  2. Ooh, those are lovely colors. And size 0 needles? That takes…*coughs* patience.

You seem to be handling this rather well, I'd have posted a picture of a half bottle of liquor. Hopefully things will get better. And soon. Like right now.

Maybe you need to stop watching “Old Yeller” in front of Tess. She seems to be taking inspiration from it. Maybe you need to find out if there's a movie about a dog finding a winning lottery ticket. Couldn't hurt, right?

  3. I can so sympathize with having an ailing doggie. I hope Tess recovers quickly, poor dear. An I hope the thief gets terminally entangled in yarn and hollers for help so loud that he'll be quickly discovered and your knitting and notions will be returned. Or something like that. 😉

And why is my word verification “Funket”? LOL!!!!
