One of the new colorways (more to come) is Santa Fe Sky. It is that blue that looks rich and deep against the warm adobe walls seen throughout New Mexico. I have to admit I’m smitten with this color. It took me two tries to get the color I wanted, and as soon as it came out of the dyepot I knew I had to use it to cast on a new lace shawl, one with beads.

Here is a sneak peak at May Morning. It’s a triangle shawl without a center spine and knit from the bottom up. There’s a simple eyelet border on each side. The beading and the color though are what makes this shawl for me. I love the simple leaf design though, don’t get me wrong.

It’s called May Morning because the beads (I’m using silver-lined clear beads from the Bead Merchant in Tulsa. A great bead shop that just celebrated twenty years!) remind me of the dew as it gathers on leaves. There is an ancient tradition that says if a woman washes her face with the morning dew from the leaves on May Day beauty will flourish, both within and without through the coming year.

The pattern of the beads will be heavier on the first repeats, then gradually decrease as the shawl enlarges. Imagine the dew rolling off the points of the leaves…

Other than working on a new shawl, I’m doing some stealth knitting. You too? Thought that might be the case. We’ll talk about that next month.
